Butterflies and a Mermaid

Will I ever make another card? I am sure I will but in the meantime it seems that mixed media is taking over. This journey began about a year ago when my friend (and very talented artist!) Anne Fenton told me anyone can draw and after much encouragement I decided to try. Through searching for tutorial youtube videos I found the mixed media artist Willowing (Tamara LaPorte) and the rest is history.

These are two pages I worked on over the weekend and is my back ever paying the price! I think I tried to catch up on 6 months of lost play time in one weekend. But I had a blast!

The butterflies on this page are from Bo' Bunny papers and Martha Stewart Punch. I used acrylics, watercolors, stamping and collage.

This page is collage, india inks, acrylics, prismacolor pencils, chalks and alcohol drops. I didn't plan on an underwater scene but after all of the colors merged and the drips formed it just screamed for one.

One other long missed activity has returned also..... coffee!! So now I am off to enjoy a nice cup on the back porch and listen to the birds.

Doodle Days

Wow! I cannot believe I haven't posted in so long! It's been a long road back to being healthy. I won't bore you with all of the details but after literally months of being bedridden it is a blessing to even get on the computer, let alone being able to get "arty".

I still need to brush up on my copic skills but here's a few doodles from my sketchbook that were done mostly with ink, watercolors and prismacolor pencils.

The last layout I did over the weekend. Notice a theme? lol!

I adore black and white checks. My kitchen floor is black and white checks and has been for as long as I can remember. The other two layouts evolved over quite some time. I love having a page I can just turn to and doodle to my hearts content when passing time. It's a great way to wile away the time in doctors waiting rooms! I lay down all the color first with washes of watercolor paints and pencils. Then all I need to bring with me are my journal, black sharpie and a white gel pen. When I am all done with the doodling I accentuate color in some areas with my prismacolor pencils and OMS.

An Art Journal layout

Woo hoo!! I actually got to create something! Granted, it took many more hours than normal but I enjoyed playing with some artsy stuff again =)

But before I get to my pages, let me just say how much you all touched me during my recent absence. All of the comments and those of you that have taken the time to email me have touched me deeply! I truly appreciate the prayers, love and concern, so from the very bottom of my heart, thank you!!

This is a layout from my art journal. I really should call it my sketchbook because I still don't do that journaling part. I am still practicing sketching and I still love it. I painted the majority of this with watercolor paints and pencils but when I got to the embellishing stage I did add some pen and ink details, some collaging, acrylic paints using both a brayer and stamps, stickles, star sequins and some sort of reflective stuff on her wings that I picked from Michaels.

And here's a close up of that stuff on her wings:

I bought that stuff thinking it will make great snow but now I see I could use it on on all kinds of stuff. Wouldn't it look great on an underwater scene??

I've been doing some Zentangles to soothe the creative void so maybe I will have a few of those I can share sometime soon. Thanks again ♥

Analinda and a Video

Hi everyone! I hope you've been enjoying your week and have been able to carve out some crafting time. I've got one of my favorites to share with you today, although I must admit, after seeing what some of my teamies have done with this image I am a little intimidated. But here goes, meet my version of Analinda available at the Crafts and Me store:

I hadn't planned on adding all the ephemera and almost completly covered my scrolls, but, oh well. Sometimes you've just got to go with the flow. Here's a few close ups:

Kiki LaRue Latte - icopic

As soon as fall got here I started hearing all the happy comments of how excited everyone was to get their hands on their pumpkin lattes again. So, what a perfect opportunity to mask together Kiki LaRue Latte and Swiss Pixie Fall Scene?

If you missed Sami's post on how to mask two stamps together you can see that here.

I masked in both ways, two stamps together and then I also created a mask for my airbrushing. Here's some pics of that process:

I had lined my stamps up with my Stamp a ma jig (is that the name?) so I could stamp the images in the exact same place twice. Then I cut out the second one to use as the mask.

I airbrushed my sky in with B21.

It's hard to see but I also airbrush in the ground with E31. But that got covered up eventually with some fall mix Flower soft.

Can you see her little bandana? That was a ball to doodle with my black copic multi liner and added dots with my copic opaque. Here's a close up of that:

One last close up of that adorable brad by Milton (that btw.. matches Kiki's Latte cup!!)

Guest DT at Papercraft Star Challenge

When my good friend and former DT teamie Tracy asked me if I would like to be a Guest DT at Papercraft Star Challenges I jumped at the chance! Especially when she told me that the challenge is Fall Leaves! I adore fall cards, leaves, pumpkins, ghourds... the list can go on and on! I think it's because I love all those textures and colors! So, I had this image in mind but I had to get permission first.

Almost every stamp and digi company has an angel policy. Each company or artist will lay out for you very plainly what you can and cannot do with their images. Case in point, I wanted to use Mo Mannings The Big One. I know from reading Mo's angel policy that she requests that you do not merge her images with others than hers without her consent. I emailed Mo the pic of what I wanted to do and she said it was fine. I could have just as easily cut the image out but I really like to merge my digi's into my frame if possible. I used the frame from The House Across the Bay Victorian frames series.

Isn't that frame gorgeous?!! And Mo's little guy struggling with "The Big One", priceless! Here's a few close ups:

I added some Fall Mix Flower soft for some fall leaves on the ground. If you would like to see how I color pumpkins with copics you can check my video here.

I created the border at the bottom with my EK Success leaf border punch. It was plain white paper and I just pounced Distress Inks in Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade and Wild Honey onto my craft surface (my ceramic tile) and then spritzed with water. Then I just laid the paper into those puddles. I kept doing that until the paper was covered. I also gave it a spritz with bronze Glimmer mist.

I love how the staple looks like the vein of the leaf!! I also cut some apart and added those up in the left corner, along with some copper glitter all around the edge of the black CS.

Your Next Stamp - Wicked Sweet

Hi guys! All month long our challenge at One Crazy Stamper is Fall/Halloween. I thought I'd use this cutey called Wicked Sweet from Your Next Stamp:

Do you recognize her from my mini card set from earlier this month? I decided to repurpose her on a full card. My papers are from Echo Park Apothecary paper pack.

I used plain black tulle that I cut 3 different size circles with my Spellbinders. I cut 4 of each size. Then I just secured them together with a brad. Then I used my heat tool to scorch the edges. I actually did it pretty aggressively but given that it's for Halloween I sort of like that spider web/grungy look.

I also distressed most of the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Black Soot.

Hansel with Pumpkins and a Video Tutorial

Hi all! I can't wait to show you these adorable fall stamps from CC Designs available at icopic. I used both Swiss Pixie Fall Hansel and Swiss Pixie Fall Scene stamped twice on either side to create this scene:

Bonus with a warning!! This is a very long tutorial so maybe click on the "watch later" feature available now on youtube. I share a lot of info on not just pumpkins but shading in general that I hope you will find really useful.

Notice the whole scene is popped up but it is all one layer.
I used the "Happy" from SP and Company Christmas Emma Stamp set. I stamped the F A L L onto a EK Success Slim Edger Leaf Chain punch after cutting apart some of the leaves.

I created that look for the leaves by stamping my Distress Ink pads directly onto my work surface, which for me is a 1 foot square ceramic tile. I misted the surface with plain water and then laid my paper down into the beaded up ink. I kept doing this until the paper was covered. I used a mix of Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade and Wild Honey.

Miss Mirabelle

Hi everyone!! This is my very first challenge with the Crafts and Me team. Still super excited and when you take a look at this stamp you will see why! I adore her!! Say hello to Miss Mirabelle by the artist Hannah Lynn available at the Crafts and Me store:

Did I just hear you gasp? I know, right??!! She is one of the most beautiful steampunk images I have ever seen!! Look at those mosaic wings! Here's a close up:

Plus Crafts and Me has that amazing Steampunk frame to put her in. I chose to use the rectangle but there is also an oval with a little gear flourish that are gorgeous also!

I didn't add a sentiment but rather just did a grouping of charms that say love and a couple of keys:

I distressed my twill tape by pouncing my craft mat (I use a huge ceramic tile) with Distress Ink and then spritzing with water. Then I just soaked up the puddles with my bow and then used my heat tool to dry it.

Got Candy?

The sentiment along with the very back panel were all distressed with Tim Holtz Distress ink in Spiced Marmalade.

Exciting News!!

Hi guys!! I am so excited to share today's post, so get ready for lot's of exclamation points =)

I've been asked by Teresa of Crafts and Me to join her DT!!! Pinch me, I'm dreaming!!! I used Forever Rose by the artist Hannah Lynn for my Prisma coloring video and have been hooked ever since! I can literally be lost for chunks of time looking at all of the amazing products she carries including rubber and digi's. Besides the store there is also the store blog and the Challenge blog. There is a new challenge every Wednesday so we have lot's of places to hang out together!

So today I have Hannah Lynn's digi Priscilla:

I created my background papers after seeing this tutorial by Vix. I had tried this technique with Tim Holtz Distress Inks before but never with my copics. Oh my gosh! I love it and I think I will be using this from now on!! I created the moon by simply cutting a Circle nestie shape and then airbrushing it with copics C1, BV23 and Y11.

Swiss Pixies Sunflower Lula

Happy Wednesday!! Today for icopic I have another one of my favorite stamp lines! Say hello to Swiss Pixies Sunflower Lula:

I made this for my daughter to send to my mom. They've always been extremely close and this is perfect for the two of them! My daughter loves butterflies and my mom loves black eyed susans so we'll just pretend that's what those are ; )

I printed Lula with Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black. The sentiment is from SP and Company For Every Woman set and I stamped that with Memento Ink in Rich Cocoa Brown. The sentiment was cut with a Spellbinders Fancy Tag die and while still in the die I airbrushed with YR18. I attached it to my card with some Divine Twine. My papers are Wild Rose Studio.

Coffee in my Bathrobe.... Heaven!

Except with my curly hair you will never catch me in curlers, ha! But check out cute Coffee Kiki La Rue:

My papers are Echo Park Victoria Gardens. I love hot pink and orange together! I think I've been trying to get in as many bright colored cards as possible before the more somber tones of fall. Although I love a great fall palette also!
Here's a close up of the Copic coloring:

Although she looks popped up, she isn't. That is shading added with the V91 and V93. Sorry, sometimes I forget to add some of the final colors to my list. I added it after adding my "halo" around her with the YR's. Those tones blended too much with her skin so I needed to add something to make her "pop". Here are all the other copic colors I used:

I cut her out with my circle Nestie and backed with another scallop Nestie. My sentiment is also from CC Designs. I don't see Amy R's Sassy Sentiments in the store at the moment but lots of other cute ones to choose from! Some final touches of Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Spiced Marmalade and some white gel pen faux stitching and I think we are done : )

Tiddly Inks Art Journal Challenge and a Video

Shew, I made it with 3 days to spare. Tiddly Inks has had a Art Journal challenge for the last two weeks and I've been wanting to get something entered but just haven't had time. Today I finally played and had a ball!! I've been wanting to ink up Owlette (and it comes with that awesome tree!!) so I let that dictate what my journal page theme was going to be. I think owl and I automatically think wise, so here's what I came up with:

Sundays with Crissy - Friendship

It's my turn to share a card with you for Sundays with Crissy. Our theme this month is Friendship. I just knew I had to use this adorable image called He Loves Me.

I've layered my stamp in my photo editing software on top of a vintage post card image I have. I LOVE not having to cut anything out!! I have links in my sidebar to some of the sites I use for Vintage images.

I just love to think what that cute pup is wondering... what's it gonna be? Does he love you? or love you not?? Too cute!!

I don't have my lists of the colors I used. It was one of those marathon coloring nights and somehow I just lost track. I do know her dress is R20, R22 and R30 and the pup was all in the BV 20's.

The Greeting Farm–Blush Bonnie

It's Wednesday so that means it's my turn at bat to show you some of the amazing products from icopic.
Our challenge this week is to color with our least favorite color. That's hard for me because I adore all colors, but, if I have to chose a least favorite, I have to pick green only because it is a color that I never chose for clothing. It just doesn't look right with my skin tones. So here's my Blush Bonnie in a pretty green dress:

I grunged up all those edges with copic opaque. I also used it with my stylus to apply the dots to the scalloped edge of my nestie and the little dot accents on the fancy tag. Here's a close up of Bonnie:

I tried a few different things on this. Not sure if I'll do them again, but you never know if you don't try, right? I used V91 to shade on her skin in addition to my normal skin tones. I also used chalk around my image instead of pure copics. I didn't like the way it looked so I added Peeled Paint Distress Ink. Still wasn't loving the chalk so then I went back in with V91 around the entire background. Then I added swirls with my colorless blender. It even worked over the Distress ink so how cool was that?

btw.. that one pearl that is smack dab in the center of that flower? How lucky was that because it sure wasn't planned and I didn't even notice it until editing my photos! I love when something unexpected like that happens =)

Baby Kiki Fairy

It's my turn at bat for One Crazy Stamper and I've got one of my all time favorite images to share with you today. I found the artist Mo Manning almost as soon as I started making cards and quickly fell in love with her images. Now many of her most popular images are available in rubber. Case in point, check out Baby Kiki Fairy available through Stampavie:

Even though I've colored her many times before each time I try to push myself to improve in some small way. This time I tried to get more realistic baby skin tones and I did that by adding quite a bit of R30 (copics). I also wanted to try to get the wings to look how I wanted without the use of Stickles. Here's a close up:

After stamping with Memento Ink I used these Copic colors:

I did use a Sakura Stardust pen to add those sparkly bits around her wings and hat. I never noticed before that her lil' hat looks like a strawberry, so that's why I went with the reds.

My patterned papers are from Bo' Bunny. I think the only other touches are my Spellbinders and some flat back pearls. My sentiment is from Amy R of CC Designs. I don't see that particular set in the store at the moment but LOTS of other cute ones to chose from!!

Another Art Journal Page

Hope everyone is having a great day! I had a play at finishing up a few journal pages that have been brewing for a bit. I did the sketch a few weeks ago but haven't had a chance to "finish" them. I laugh when I say finish because I'm not sure an art journal page is ever finished. But here goes:

Still just working on sketching and playing with materials. On this one I used colored pencils, watercolor pencils and crayons, acrylic paint, faber-castell Pitt pens, copic opaque, stencils, stamps and bubble wrap. All of the white is copic opaque painted with a super fine brush. The flowers were cut from old book pages using Tim Holtz tattered flowers die. A few were cut with an EK Success punch. Here's a few close ups:

icopic - Waiting Tilda

What a fun challenge we have this week at icopic, High Contrast coloring!! I love this Magnolia stamp called Waiting Tilda:

I showed you last week on my Fizzy Moon card how I use the X-Press It Double sided Adhesive tape to add glitter. Here I used the 1/8" width around my oval nestie shape:

Sunflowers always speak fall to me and I can hardly believe we are already half way through September! I have the cutest stamp from CC Designs to share with you today from One Crazy Stamper. Meet Swiss Pixies Birgitta:

Don't forget about all the cool things you can do with your colorless blender! See those dots in the center of the sunflower? All done with the colorless blender. One thing you want to remember when you try this though is to give the blender a few seconds to start pushing the color out of the way. You will not see immediate results so better to add just a few at a time and then you go back and strengthen some of the spots or add more if you need to.

YNS September Release at One Crazy Stamper

We are so thrilled that Karen from Your Next Stamp has allowed One Crazy Stamper the privilege of revealing her September release!!

I decided to take a few of the girl stamps and create some mini shaped cards. It seems I am always short of cards when I just want a simple note so I thought these would be perfect:

Are they not adorable or what??!! I cut each card out of Kraft CS with a Spellbinders Label Seventeen Nestabiltie. Then I airbrushed while still in the nestie shape with Copic E33. Then I just colored to my hearts content : ) Sorry I don't have lists of my colors but here's close ups of each one:
