DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Review

I received a set of the new DecoArt Media PROFESSIONAL Quality Fluid Acrylic paints to review. Check out my video here:
Because the colors didn't show up as beautiful in the video as they are in real life I took a few stills but even they don't show how gorgeous these paints are!

But in all honesty the most accurate shot of what these paints are like is my palette! They are rich, luscious, fluid, transparent and intense. I can't wait to play with these more so look for more projects using them. (I am currently in filming mode for my Soul Food class so everything else has taken a back seat.)
Keep an eye out on DecoArt's site for more info on this amazing line as it is made available.

Downsizing my Watercolor Palette

I have been shopping for a professional quality travel palette for awhile now. I found a few brands I really like but just couldn't fathom it since I already have a humongous palette filled with Winsor & Newton professional watercolors. I adore the paints but am not crazy about the size of the palette. So I finally decided I was going to just buy an empty travel palette and fill it with my paints. These are tubes paints that have been filled into the wells and left to dry.
I added a little bit of Gum Arabic in the bottom of the wells on the new palette and gave it a spritz of water, then mixed well. I am hoping that will act as a sort of glue for the new paints until they have a chance to "freshen" up and adhere on their own. The new palette is airtight and waterproof. The lid has a clear plastic liner that lifts out for double the mixing space.
So I won't say the next part was exactly easy. Had all of my paints been fresh so I could just scoop them out with my knife it would've been a breeze. But it's been a long time since I've used this palette (I know, it's a shame!!!) some of the paints were hard, brittle and hard as rocks! Was it worth the effort to save myself $200? You betcha'!!!
So here's what it looks like now filled with the colors of my choosing and I am thrilled!!
I had more colors than wells so I just put all of my browns in the four corners of one of the mixing wells. I think it will work just fine =0)

If you can't get the real thing, I might as well draw some!!
More playtime in my itty bitty journal (3.5 x 5") and still loving it!
I used my Koi travel watercolor set. I have the 24 color set. This little set always shocks me at how vibrant and transparent the pigments are. Granted, not the same as professional quality watercolors, but then again, it is a $5.99 journal ;)
Also used my Prismacolor pencils, a black and white waterbased Sharpie Paint Pens.

A Bird on My Shoulder

Remember that WIP I started about a month ago? If you didn't see you can check it out here and more progress on it here.
I had put her away for a while and then had a few days and nights of mad artistic energy. It doesn't hit as often as I would like but I have learned to take advantage of it when it does! So here's what she looks like today:
And some close ups of some of my fav bits:

That "lace" sure was fun to doodle but then again I love fiddly work.

Some of the products used:
Spray inks created with Daler Rowney FW Acrylic Inks
Black Copic Marker
A Sharpie Water Based White Paint Marker (I like the fine and extra fine points)

As always, thanks for stopping by and here's hoping you find some happy art making time =0)

New Mixed Media Post Card #3

I've not gotten a lot done artistically the last few weeks but pulled an all nighter (almost) last night. Art sure helps to calm my mind or in this case deal with physical ailments that just keep me from falling asleep.  I pulled out one of the Post Card sized index cards I had collaged with leftover pieces of scrapbook designer papers and came up with this:
For you young un's that is a quote from the 70's show Kojak.

Thanks for looking =0)

New Stamp Released

Hi all! It's been ages since I've had anything to release for Whimsy Stamps. Denise is such a wonderful owner to work with. Have you SEEN some of the amazing talented artists over there? Be sure to check out all of the new releases today.
I do have a new stamp released today as well. I have such a soft spot for butterflies that only magnified when my daughter was little. So here's my colored version of my stamp called Stippled Butterfly

I colored it with Prismacolor Pencils. In hindsight I wished I had used my Copics so the stippling was a little more evident but regardless it was a lot of fun to color. I added back in the white dots with a Sakura white Gelly pen.  I love the super fine tip on those pens!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are having a fantastic weekend =0)
